TROPICAL HARDWOOD TRAPEZE TABLE BY JEAN PROUVE 1950
TROPICAL HARDWOOD TRAPEZE TABLE BY JEAN PROUVE 1950
Rare longer version of the coveted and iconic ‘Trapeze’ by Jean Prouvé with sensational solid slab sculptural tropical hardwood top. Featuring the longer discontinued pressed and welded steel base section with crossbeam no longer in production, 1900mm between the two pedestal legs (whereas later Vitra production models measure 1100mm). This dates the table to early eighties and before. The top a bespoke addition by the previous owners to replace the standard steel production top. It is a significant piece of aged dark hardwood with chiselled edges and shows great character and age with rich tones. Prouvé collaborated with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret on a variety of designs - this top could be from India and related to Jeanneret's work in Chandigarh. We don't know for certain, but the visual impression is dynamically striking and beautifully balanced. This table will seat 10. Has to be seen.
Dimensions: L 305cm x D 98cm x H 76cm
