About the designer: René Prou is a central figure in the Art Deco movement alongside Ruhlmann, Leleu, Dunand, Subes and Brandt. His style rejuvenates and alleviates the forms of Art Deco while preserving harmony, comfort and a certain idea of luxury. Born in Nantes and educated in Paris. He studied at the Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris and shortly thereafter joined the design house, Gouffé. By 1912 he had become their chief designer and was being called the first decorator of the modern taste (gout moderne).
